Nemo (15:40:55) :

Neat!

I would’ve appreciated a torrent, though.

22 12 2008
Michael (15:45:09) :

Beautiful stuff! As soon as I can I will be picking up a physical copy of this. Thanks so much for making this available.

Phil (18:04:20) :

totally awesome…you made my day…

22 12 2008
Jim (18:33:39) :

Wow. Great job at capturing the essence of the individual sound engines. I think that Faxanadu is my favorite.

22 12 2008
Benjamin (18:37:48) :

Sweet album. I’ve considered donating, but I have one important question: will the CD I receive be sourced from MP3 or from lossless? It would be worth the $15 to me to have a lossless copy of this album, but I have serious issues paying money for MP3 distortion. I do not purchase MP3 on technical principles.

22 12 2008
Doctor Octoroc (19:21:03) :

A huge thanks to all the great feedback!

Guy Chapman - Thanks for the props, dude. I have the blogging ocmmunity to thank for the initial, and continuing, popularity of the album.

Evan C - Thanks for your support, and I definitely have some future projects in the works right now - 80’s shows, for one, is a focus of a 2-disc set I’d like to release by May 2009. These tracks will likely be a little longer, as well.

Nemo - Sorry about not having the torrent available. I did consider that possibility the first time my server overloaded. I have a few reasons for not making one available, but mainly because I wanted to be able to track downloads, and I would prefer users to come to my site initially to get the files. Once a torrent is out there, it’s out of my control. With the mirrors, I know who has the source files, so I don’t have to worry about that.

Benjamin - I will be rendering the tracks as .WAV files before I send the tracks to be copied. Obviously, the download would not make much sense with the lossless source files, as people would be downloading the files all day. Initially, I was going to produce these myself, but based on the number of copies I plan on sending out, I have decided to have them professionally duplicated, which means better quality packaging, copying and, yes, lossless audio. Thank you for mentioning that, as I’m sure others are curious about the sound quality as well.

great, but my family hates how harsh sounding it is. therefore pretty useless… :’(

22 12 2008
Edco (19:25:52) :

Fantastic, man, fantastic. Each of them have that little bit of magic, tho I have to say Kraid gave me the warm fuzzies.

22 12 2008
MJG (20:54:43) :

Really great music. I donated the $15 without hesitation; can’t wait for the physical copy!

22 12 2008
Christmas (22:25:49) :

Sorry Jews, but your Messiah is in another manger.

22 12 2008
Doctor Octoroc (23:14:55) :

Giz - this isn’t exactly a family album, so no hard feelings.

Christmas - Funny you should mention that, since I’m Jewish…and so was Jesus. Either way, thanks for the hilarious comment.

Megs (23:26:20) :

I’m taking this one home to the folks! :)
I mentioned your album on my blog, bubblegumandbibles.blogspot.com. Check it out if you get a second!

23 12 2008
Bryan (00:22:34) :

I put these on my iPod this morning and brought it to work. My co-worker and I played it in store for about an hour. Got a few customers that knew the classic 8-bit sound, and they asked where I got it from. So, you’ve got a few more downloads, and hopefully donations as well, coming your way. :)

Again, wonderful job. Each one has the classic sound of the actual game its from, and that’s my favorite feature.

Kraid, Rest Ye Merry Mother Brain, Have Yourself A Final Little Fantasy, & Carol of the Belmonts are definitely my favorites.

Dr. Octoroc,

This is some really amazing stuff and I’m quite impressed. Would you mind telling me what software you used to make this? Maybe Nerdtracker? I’m looking for a Linux NSF composer and I thought you may know of one. Here’s to hoping! I could always run NT in DosBox, but…lol you know.

Thanks!
Ben

Shael Riley (17:28:55) :

I love that these are neither arrangements, nor mash-ups, but, rather, a compositional middle ground between classic NES chiptunes and traditional Xmas songs.

Thoroughly spectacular album.

26 12 2008
Russ (22:54:51) :

This is undoubtedly the best thing I’ve ever heard.

27 12 2008
Grimme (04:35:35) :

My brother came home for Christmas and had this playing on his phone during his visit. I overheard the song and asked which Castlevania it was from, since I didn’t recognize the particular piece. He laughed and told me it was “Carol of the Belmonts” from a Christmas album called 8-Bit Jesus.

I am a huge Castlevania fan. You so perfectly combined the sound of the classic games with the tunes of the classic carols into something entirely unique- I honestly thought it was from a Castlevania game! Incredible work with the album!

27 12 2008
Crow (13:21:44) :

Great album. Hope your dog is OK.

The Metroid and Guardian Legend tunes were great. Also loved the Faxanadu tune. That was one of my favorite NES games. Maybe for next year you can pick up Battle of Olympus.

Absolutely loved the album. My family even listened to it while opening presents.

I thought you might enjoy the fact that I was bumping 8-bit Jesus in my patrol car. I wonder if I was the only cop to do that? I even played it when I was transporting prisoners. Their responses were hilarious (”Is this music from Pong?” or “What the fuck is this shit?”). Genius!
