My girlfriend and I got a dog today. We originally ordered him from the local pet shop, which in case you were concerned or wondering, gets all their puppies straight from private breeders, not puppy-mills, complete with pedigree certificate, history (as far as 5 generations back), and all his shots to date. We can even go meet the parents if we want!
Boo puppy mills!
We were expecting to pick up the Corgi puppy on Wednesday or Thursday of next week, but we got a call today from Bill from the shop while I was out buying a new suit for my cousin’s wedding this weekend, telling us that “…[they] just got a Corgi in and it [was] friggin’ cute!” Getting back from our shopping just before the pet shop closed, we headed out to see the Corgi.
When we arrived, Bill scooped up the sleepy pup and handed him to us, exclaiming “Take him, play with him, do what you gotta do.” Prior to entering the store we made an agreement that if the Corgi was not exactly what we wanted, we would wait until Thursday for the Corgi we ordered.
Well…

…how could we not take him home? We’ve already taught him to sit, stop when we tell him “no”, and his first night in the crate he isn’t making a peep.
Why post about a dog on a video game related nerd blog? For one, because he’s friggin’ adorable, and that should be reason enough no matter what the usual content featured on this blog. Secondly, for those of you who have seen the anime Cowboy Bebop, we named Ein after the Corgi in the series. He’s so smart…

Comment by Kaesi 09.14.08 @ 7:25 pmLovely little critter! Interesting, and perhaps apropos name in “Ein,” given that as when eating peanuts one cannot stop at one, so it is with bringing Corgis into your human pack! I predict that along with Ein, you will soon have a “Zwei,” and maybe a “Drei” as well. We have two “brothers from another mother” in Los Hermanos Sin Huevos, Rodrigo and Riccardo, aka “Roddy and Ricky.”
I am 53 years old and have owned a few dogs in my life, but both my wife and I concur that these Corgis are the best dogs we have ever welcomed into our home. Not only are they loyal and natural clowns, but are so easily trained that we have never had any “accidents” or malicious chewing of anything not their own. I attribute that both to their natural willingness to please their fellow pack members, but to something you alluded to in your notes; crate training.
I don’t know if that is precisely what you meant about Ein not making a peep in his crate, but we tried crate training with the first Corgi we got (Roddy) and were so astonished by his rapid adjustment to the behavior modification being done that we didn’t hesitate to do it with Ricky. We rarely have need to use the crates other than when traveling anymore, but if we set them up and simply say, “Go crate” they will charge off to their little dens and go inside without complaint, obviously comfortable in the feeling of safety they derive from the experience. Because of the crate, they learned very quickly that the backyard is the place to do their business, and the inside is where we all commune. They have a doggy door and come and go as they please. We leave them home alone all day unsupervised with never an issue.
Anyway, good luck with Ein, and we hope that he is everything to you that our Corgis have been to my family.

Comment by Arachne 04.19.10 @ 2:03 pmWe had a female Corgi named Yoda. She passed away 3 months ago. Such a joy to see your little puppy. Love the name. HAVE A BALL with him. Corgis are the greatest. (oh, yes, we’ll be getting another. maybe 2)
