I finished the third (and final) act of my 8-Bit Dr. Horrible Project. The full runtime of all three acts clocks in at over 30 minutes…just fair warning.
Watch the entire animation (or any Act you haven’t seen yet) in high-quality Flash or check it out in two parts on YouTube:
I’ve made some additions to the Flash version, including a new title screen (plus the option to choose from one of three acts, or watch it the whole way through).
Feel free to subscribe to the Doctor Octoroc YouTube channel, my RSS feed, or follow me on Twitter, etc. concerning future projects like this one. There will be more…
And if you haven’t heard anything about this project yet, it’s an 8-bit re-creation of the online musical. Check out the links above to see it now!

Don’t get me wrong, I thought the project as a whole was quite brilliant. But you got one thing wrong. It actually goes:
“I hate the homeless-…”
“…-ness problem that plagues our city.”
Also, IMHO, Act 3 dropped the ball a little bit. There were plenty of missed opportunities for video-game-ization … a timer running out until Captain Hammer unfreezes, for example, or the red clothes being a new option at the end … the various parties and bank robberies being games that unlock, while maybe a “Billy” level suddenly becomes inaccessible …

One small critique on Act 3. It seems that Dr. Horrible blasts two people with the death ray before “get a pic” and “do a blog” dialogue. That part seems to go against the character and underlying foundation of the story.
To me, my interpretation of Dr. Horrible is that killing isn’t his thing. It’s his moral delima. On one hand he REALLY wants to join ELE yet his personal line is that he didn’t want to kill. (e.g. shunning Moist’s suggestion of killing a child-to-be-Pope and old person to join ELE) That is until it was Cpt. Hammer who nudged Billy over the edge to commit to killing Cpt. Hammer. Even then, when it came time to pull the trigger, “Here goes – no mercy…” he still hesitates to cross that line.
Just my two cents on why that part bothered me. Other than that, the filling out of scenes where Billy sneaks into the ceremony by helping set up really fleshed things out and the “boss fight” with Hammer was quite awesome. The blinking title screen was also great!
Overall, well done! They were enjoyable and I wished they had been included on the blu-ray as an extra.
Best wishes and thanks for your hard work.

Hello,
I see you have addressed my critique in your 8-bit commentary section. Although I disagree with your decision to pay homage to the inconsistencies of 8-bit games at that point in the story, I’m glad that it was a conscious choice to do so instead of on a whim.
